It has begun

E3’s here. Sure, the event itself hasn’t started, but for those of us “in the biz” as it were, it might as well have. Our elite strike forces have already assembled and been briefed, and some of them have already been sent out into the field to prepare for what is to come next week.

Originally, I was to have gone with them, but as things changed–and believe me, things changed, up until the last minute–it was decided that only one of my team was to go, and Kim was the lucky man to go. And really, he was the best man for the job, having had the most experience actually working events like this before. Of course I was disappointed, and JD went so far as to suggest that I “kill him and wear his skin,” to which I replied, “dude, I’m way taller than him, they’d totally figure that out,” but to be quite honest I’m somewhat relieved that I won’t be going.

I’ve been to past E3’s, though never to work, and while I’d love to see the hustle and bustle that goes on behind the scenes–especially at this, the reinvented E3–I’m not quite sure it’s something I want to see. Part of the magic is not knowing about the man behind the curtain, and seeing how this is really a dry run of things to come as there’s no way E3 will be held like this next time, if it’s held at all, I don’t think I’d like to see what it’s become. Pretty much everyone around the office likes the idea of what they’re trying to do, but there’s this sort of unspoken sadness at how it’s changed.

At any rate, next week (and possibly this weekend) is going to be busy busy busy. I already spent most all of yesterday prepping some secret stuff (you’ll see it pop Monday or Wednesday) and it’s going to be like that all the way through. E3 may have shrank in size, but don’t automatically dismiss it like some people have–it’s here and just as big in content as ever.
