Picking Strangers by the Side of Roadways

My eyes shoot open as I bolt upright with a gasp. Everything that happened in the past few hours comes back to me at once, and I’m overwhelmed with images and painful memories of all the yelling and screaming, the escape, and the accident. The accident!

“Are you all right, Maggie?”

I look up and see Claude sitting by the roadside. His face is badly scratched, but he seems like he’ll be fine. I nod my head at him slowly, and he looks relieved.
“Where’s Rico?” I ask quietly. Claude looks distant, the cover of his poker face momentarily broken and the grief evident. He shakes his head, and points behind me. I turn to see where the car broke through the guard rail and rolled mid-air to land in the reservoir. It remains there still, floating upside-down in the shallow water.

“I could only save you.”

Anime Expo 07 recap

It has begun

E3’s here. Sure, the event itself hasn’t started, but for those of us “in the biz” as it were, it might as well have. Our elite strike forces have already assembled and been briefed, and some of them have already been sent out into the field to prepare for what is to come next week.

Originally, I was to have gone with them, but as things changed–and believe me, things changed, up until the last minute–it was decided that only one of my team was to go, and Kim was the lucky man to go. And really, he was the best man for the job, having had the most experience actually working events like this before. Of course I was disappointed, and JD went so far as to suggest that I “kill him and wear his skin,” to which I replied, “dude, I’m way taller than him, they’d totally figure that out,” but to be quite honest I’m somewhat relieved that I won’t be going.
